In his many movie roles and in real life, John Wayne typified the best of the American spirit. He was honorable, direct, caring and larger than life. John Wayne was a man we will always remember with fondness and respect. More than anyone else in recent times, he represented the best of the American spirit. Although John Wayne played many screen roles, many of his fans remember him best for his legendary roles in the classic, patriotic military films we all enjoyed so much. Such classic military films as The Fighting Seabees (1944), Back to Bataan and They Were Expendable (1945), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), In Harm’s Way (1965), and The Longest Day (1962), remain etched in the minds and hearts of John Wayne fans everywhere. Through the screen he brought encouragement to all Americans and inspired us to always do our best. He gave us confidence that we can overcome even in the most difficult situations. Today, in remembrance of this distinguished American and legendary actor, America Remembers, with the authorization of Wayne Enterprises, proudly presents the John Wayne Tribute .45 Pistol. For this Tribute, we have chosen a firearm that will certainly be recognized and fondly remembered by military veterans, who served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam: the classic Government Issue .45 caliber Colt service pistol. Developed by legendary gun maker John Moses Browning, the incomparable Colt .45 was designated as America’s official service handgun in 1911. The Colt was utterly reliable, virtually indestructible and awesome in its stopping power. To this day, the Colt .45 occupies a position of respect unparalleled in the world of military firearms. We have spared no effort in creating an appropriate and lasting tribute to John Wayne and the inspirational roles he played in his classic military films. The John Wayne Tribute .45 Pistol is a working, semi-automatic pistol with the solid performing power counted on by all those who relied on this trusted sidearm during their service to our country. The Colt .45 was a favorite of John Wayne and was featured frequently in his military films. Each pistol is polished and decorated by craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers with artwork we have created specifically for this military Tribute. The slide is polished and decorated in elegant 24-karat gold and nickel with a blued background. The artwork includes classic images of John Wayne, and inspirational words of encouragement from the Duke, featured along with patriotic American symbols, which meant so much to this legendary icon and continue to represent the proud and patriotic spirit of the American people. The left slide features the central portrait of John Wayne in the role of a Marine Officer.
