SMITH AND WESSON MODEL 65 REVOLVER

product photo of the Smith and Wesson model 65 revolver

The Smith and Wesson model 65 revolver was introduced in 1973. It was one of several .357 magnum variations of the extremely popular model 10. It is built on the medium sized K frame, making it one of Smith and Wesson's medium-weight models.

The model 65 was produced from 1973 to 1999, then some minor changes were made. It continued to be produced until 2004.

The model 65 was always a popular gun with law enforcement officers, as it could handle full-power .357 magnum or .38 +P loads without a problem, and had very good balance and handling characteristics.

The model 65 is no longer produced, but can be readily found used or as new in box. While it's not a collectors item (yet), it is a very desirable revolver.

"Mine is 65-1. I bought it about 7 or 8 years ago. I was in need of a .357 mag so I had a chance to get this one. A good solid revolver. I will not let this one get away. I give it five stars."

"Holy Smokes! This was the first firearm I ever purchased. Bought it from my father after I turned 21. Aside from holding a certain sentimental value to me, it is hands down the most accurate, reliable, and dependable handgun I have ever owned. It's a brilliant piece of machinery, and If you're in the market for a revolver, I highly recommend it. There have been times I've taken it up the mountain to target shoot, and can hit cans, or bullseye's on targets from 40 - 50 yards out, leaving people around me in awe of its accuracy."

"An outstanding revolver! Simple, completely reliable, powerful and accurate. What more is there to say. I have owned two. Both were exceptionally accurate, like shooting guided missiles.

That heavy barrel greatly aids accuracy and the ability to recover quickly from recoil.

All of the S&W military and Police heavy barrel guns were excellent. "

"I love this gun, picked it up from a guy for $325.00, what a deal. My only complaint is the grips. It has the hard rubber grips on it and I would like to find a set of medium K Frame walnut grips for it for my smaller hand. It is a "shooter."

I carried the 65-2 both on the job and off duty until we transitioned to semi-autos. Afterward, I used this as my off-duty carry - until I retired last year, after 27 years. I now carry between this and two .45's.

When I used to qualify it for off-duty, the young kids would be amazed at both the size, and the accuracy of the "wheel gun," even the young instructors were impressed!!

My 5'4" daughter loved shooting it, and my 5'7" 130lb wife now claimed it as her own. She can shoot anything from a shotgun to an AR, to a semi-auto - but she just loves that .357 Smith!!

Like I said, it may be mine and I love it, but that is her home defense weapon!!!

"I have a 65-3 I use it for just about everything. My carry weapon use it for hunting and all. Would not trade it for nothing. Mine is a 1984 S&W .357 magnum 4in barrel with rubber finger groove grips. I love it!"

"I carried this pistol for 15 years in law enforcement until the big change to semi-autos. After retiring and working as the firearms director for a large Armored Car Company, I made the model 65 the standard issued firearm until it's demise. Never had any problems. I recently picked up a model 65 with a 3 inch barrel and firing pin attached to the hammer. Would like to know if a wider hammer is available to replace the factory one?"

"Own more than a few S&W 65's. Prefer the 3" bbl, but 4" is fine, just a bit long for IWB Carry. The 65 is all one could ask for for a CCW.."

"I carry this revolver in the fields, woods, and bayous. Most of the animal problems that I've had are of the reptile persuasion. I would have rated this weapon 5 stars if not for 1 problem. The hammer nose snapped on me in the middle of an encounter with wild hogs. After 1 shot, I was unarmed."

"I have carried this weapon on duty and off. I have used it on Law Enforcement competition and find it a fantastic weapon and companion.

With custom grips and speed loaders, it can give a 45 cap a good fight

I love my S& W firearms!!!!!!"
