SPRINGFIELD LIGHWEIGHT CHAMPION OPERATOR 1911 PISTOL

Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator 1911 with integral accessory rail

The Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator 1911 is an all-business pistol for carry or combat. It has a black hardcoat anodized aluminum frame for light weight, and a forged steel slide with an Armory Kote finish to minimize holster wear.

The Cocobolo hardwood grips feature the Springfield Armory logo, and complement the black finish of the pistol very nicely.

The frame is constructed with an integral universal accessory rail for lasers, example photo of Springfield Armory universal rail tactical lights or other accessories. (Please note that a Picatinny or 1913 rail is not the same as a Glock style rail, and devices made for the Picatinny or 1913 rails will not fit on universal rails. See photos).

The sights on the Champion Operator are combat style with rounded edges. Three tritium dots on the sights make picking up targets in daylight or darkness equally easy.

The pistol has a 4" match grade bull barrel with a fully supported ramp. The trigger is match grade as well, with a pull weight of 4.5 to 5 pounds. The trigger example photo of Picatinny rail is slightly longer than on most 1911's, allowing most shooters to place the pad of their trigger finger directly on the trigger face.

An ambidextrous safety allows right and left handed shooters to operated the lever easily.

At just 31 ounces, and just 7.5" in length, the Lightweight Champion Operator will be a comfortable gun to carry in a holster or pocket, and its features will make it easy for every shooter to use.

Every Springfield Armory 1911 pistol is equipped with a trigger locking device. A key inserted into a hole in the rear grip strap positively locks the trigger, making it impossible for a child to accidentally discharge the gun. This system gives you a choice as to whether or not you need to lock your gun. Unlike trigger locks on other brands of guns, the keyhole is small, so that it doesn't ruin the looks of the gun.

"I love it. A friend had it and traded it to me for a motorcycle. I was scared of the shorter barrel and light weight of this handgun because in my mind recoil was going to be a total....well...insert your favorite metaphor here.

To my surprise, its recoil was very manageable, and darned if I didn't get better groups with the 4" Champion Operator Lightweight than with my XD Tactical .45.

I'm very impressed. The only thing that would make me happier would be to have a pair of them."

"I can't say enough about this pistol. As far as a fighting 1911, I would take this one into a fight any time. The 4" bull barrel, slide-to-frame mating, and very crisp trigger allows me to print a whole mag inside 2 inches, without being on a rest, anywhere inside of 15 yards. I have no doubt the distance would extend if I were to use a rest, but how often do you get to shoot while using a rest in perfect conditions?

The two things that have been done to it have also improved the reliability to the point where I haven't had a malfunction in almost 1,000 rounds. Springfield Armory was nice enough to re-cut and polish the barrel ramp to a mirrior finish and they also reamed the chamber. It now feeds anything I give it with no problems. The only other modification I have is a set of Hogue rubber molded grips, which I would also recommend. Makes it very manageable.

The alluminum alloy frame keeps the weight down to near polymer pistol range, and I've had no problem carrying this pistol concealed all day at times. The night sights are also very bright and some of the better ones I've owned.

Bottom line is I would recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on one and can beg,"
