Springfield Armory 1911 Features

The Springfield line of 1911 pistols offers specific features for your specific needs. Each pistol is equipped with the type of sights, trigger, finish, grip size, and barrel length to make it "customized" for your type of shooting.

Springfield Armory 1911 Sights

The three types of sights that are featured on Springfield pistols are adjustable, combat and military.

The adjustable sights are made by Novak, and are considered to be some of the best on the market. The rear notch and front sight blade align with just enough "air" around the sight picture to let you know that your sight blade is centered. Once adjusted, they stay adjusted, even after thousands of rounds.

The combat sights are ramp-style, and have two dots on the rear and one on the front sight blade to help you acquire your target quickly and positively. The rounded corners prevent snagging on clothing while drawing.

The military-style sights found on the GI models help give these pistols an authentic feel.

Springfield Armory Triggers

GI models come with a solid trigger, the same type of trigger found on pistols issued by the US military since before World War I. Other Springfield Armory models are equipped with skeletonized triggers for weight reduction, with grooves on them for more positive finger placement, and overtravel adjustment screws to allow you to set the trigger to your liking.

Other Features

Other features on Springfield Armory 1911 pistols include barrel bushings that are quickly and easily removed for field stripping the pistol, and serrated bobbed hammers for reduced space and a more positive thumb hold on the hammer.

The GI models have spur hammers and flat grip safeties, just as did the pistols issued to troops generations ago.

Every Springfield Armory 1911 pistol is equipped with a trigger locking device. A key inserted into a hole in the rear grip strap positively locks the trigger, making it impossible for a child to accidentally discharge the gun. This system gives you a choice as to whether or not you need to lock your gun. Unlike trigger locks on other brands of guns, the keyhole is small, so that it doesn't ruin the looks of the gun.
